Brick is a performative installation. The artist, shaved and naked, inserts himself behind a gallery wall through which several small viewing portals have been cut. As he pushes his body up to the openings, the surface of the wall becomes seamlessly filled with fractions of smooth pink skin. An unsettling look of bodily dissection confronts and disorients the viewer’s gaze; a fragmented and ambiguously gendered body has worked itself into the walls of the gallery space. Through this manipulation, the piece integrates spectacle with architecture in relation to the dynamic body.
